What’s so fascinating about working as a restaurateur? Constantly surprising our guests with the simplicity of tradition.
What dish do you most often recommend to your guests? Thurnerhof’s “Herrngröstel“ (potatoes and roast meat) with cabbage salad.
What’s your own favorite dish? Milk mousse from our smoke kitchen.
What South Tyrolean specialty is the most popular ingredient in your restaurant kitchen? Herbs.
The Thurnerhof is one of the most beautiful, original and best-preserved farmhouses in Scena and was first mentioned in 1454. The heart of the house is the original smoke kitchen, where bacon and sausage used to be smoked and meals were cooked for the families, laborers and maids. We still cook over an open fire for our guests today, e.g. the traditional milk mousse in spring or chestnuts in October. The garden nestles amid centuries-old chestnut and nut trees.
